Abstract

This study was performed to evaluate biological activity and corrosion resistance on Ti-6Al-4V alloy implant surface modified by anodic oxidation, cyclic pre-calcification treatments and heat treatment and immersed in SBF solution. Ti-6Al-4V alloy implant of SLA-treated internal hex type with 4.0 §® in diameter and 11.5 §® in length were used. Anodic oxidation was performed in oder to increase specific surface area and form nanotubular TiO2 layer. And then, cyclic pre-calcification treatment was carried out by alternative immersion in 0.05 M NaH2PO4 solution at 80¡É and in Ca(OH)©ü saturated solution at 100¡É for 20 cycles, carried out to induce the precipitation of HAp crystals on the surface. The specimens were heat treated for structural stability and get rid of remaining impurities. And to investigate the bioactivity of these surface, the specimens were immersed in SBF solution and micro structural change of the surfaces was observed by FE-SEM. The concentration and the crystal structure of elements present on the surface were analyzed energy dispersive using XRD analysis. On the other hand, potentiodynamic polarization was performed in order to evaluate the corrosion resistance in Ti-6Al-4V alloy implant surface with electrochemical measurement of corrosion potential and corrosion current density. Consequently, Ti-6Al-4V alloy implant surface modified were increased specific surface area with a form nanotubular TiO2 layer and more precipitated of HAp as the result of immersion in the SBF for 3days. APH (Anodic oxidation+Cyclic pre-calcification+Heat treatment) specimens greatly improved biological activity and corrosion resistance.
